Welcome to the Art Around the World Summer Camp, where creativity knows no bounds! This immersive camp offers children aged 9-12 an exciting opportunity to explore various traditional art forms from different cultures, including Shibori dyeing, jewelry art with polymer, Japanese rock wrapping (Mizuhiki), paper mâché bowls and field trip to Cascadia Art Museum. Each day, campers will embark on a new artistic adventure, learning unique techniques and creating beautiful, culturally inspired works of art.

Summer Camp Daily Schedule (9:00 AM - 12:00 PM)
9:00 AM - 9:20 AM: Introduction of the Activity
  • Introduction to the afternoon’s activity.
  • Overview of notable artists and the cultural history relevant to the afternoon’s art form.
  • Brief discussion on the significance and impact of the art form in different cultures.
9:20 AM - 9:50 AM: Creativity and Innovation
  • Brainstorming and development of artistic ideas.
  • Discuss and explore various approaches to the afternoon’s project.
  • Participants sketch out their design ideas on paper.
9:50 PM - 10:20 PM: Design Planning
  • Detailed instructions on techniques to be used in the project.
  • Demonstration of techniques by the instructor.
  • Participants finalize their design plans and gather necessary materials.
10:20 AM - 10:50 AM: Break
10:50 AM - 11:30 AM: Application of Ideas
  • Participants begin creating their projects based on their design plans.
  • Instructors provide guidance and assistance as needed.
  • Emphasis on experimenting with different techniques and materials.
11:30 AM - 11:50 AM: Preparing for Presentation
  • Participants finish their projects.
  • Discussion on how to prepare different types of artwork for presentation.
  • Youth select and prepare their finished pieces for display.
11:50 AM - 12:00 PM: Sharing and Responding
  • Participants share their experiences and finished pieces with the group.
  • Group discussion on the differences in criteria used to evaluate works of art depending on styles, genres, media, and historical and cultural contexts.
  • Reflect on how refining their artwork affects its meaning and impact.
